Should I feed my queen pleco only meaty foods, or should I also put some vegetables in there too? The guy at the lfs said they need a meat based diet, but I just wanted to make sure. So far I have fed him shrimp pellets and cichlid delight.

I feed my queen a variety of foods frozen krill and bloodworms, Shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and she even eats some cucumber and zuchini. She actually isn't a picky eater at all. You could try adding some different things and she which it prefers.

Ok thanks. How do I get the plec to eat the zuchinni, do I just put it as close to it as possible for a few minutes, or will "smell" it from far away?

It's kinda trial and error getting them to eat vegetables. I just started dropping them in the tank at night and then removing whats left in the morning. It may take a while before they figure out they can eat it, but once they figure out it's food they take it as soon as it hits the bottom.

It helps to soften the veggie up a bit before putting them in the tank. I wrap cucumber, etc. in a moist paper towel and microwave it for 15 secs or so. Then clip or tie it to a rock and put it in. I usually leave it in there for 2 days and if there is any left I'll take it out.
