;)

I picked up some inverts, clean up crew over a week ago..it came with peppermint shrimp and coral banded shrimp.

the lil peppermint shrimp disappeared after I acclimated them..this weekend I noticed a couple empty shell/carapace..then later they crawled out of a cave to eat..bright newish shells..

now the question..what if anything do you add to make sure the shrimp have the proper trace elements? I have heard Iodine..I keep the calcium in the tank between 480 -500.
pH 8.3 specific gravity 1.024+

You may get a few different answers here. With regular water changes and a decent salt, you might not have to add anything (or maybe only calcium). Your calcium seems a little bit high. The accepted recommended range is from 380-450 while some others say to stay around 400 as much as you can.

Other people add so many other things to their tanks- strontium, magnesium, iodine/iodide, etc. My buddy adds one Kent product (forget the name) that contains all of the above additives and then some.

Personally, I like to dose my tank with as little as possible and with nothing I cannot test for. You can "play" around a little bit and experiment. Different people claim success using multiple additives while others claim great success adding as little as possible. The best advice I can give is to research and see what's best for you and the inhabitants in your tank.

thanks..I'll retest the calcium...I just recentl;y went to RO/DI..my tap may have added to the count..or(more likely) I mis counted the drops in the test:huh: :read:

Everything seems ok besides the calcium..let us know when you have re-tested it...

There should not be any need to add any trace elements to the tank if you use a good salt and keep up with waterchanges as the trace elements gets replenished everytime you change..

Remember though, whatever additive you do add, ensure you have a test kit to test for it..

Added - What salt do you use?

I would not use any additive you can not test for. Also get rid of one shrimp or the other, CBS will kill other shrimp!

I'm starting to think CBS may need to move to my Q tank..when I get that set up.

got busy last night and found the problem with the original count..calcium is 180 out of tap..the tank is now on ro/di and the measure ments were in the 380-400 range(I don't have the exact number cause I fergot to bring those with me today...but I remember breathing a sigh of relief..once for the calcium being fine ..the other after the Tomini re appeared( i had my hand in the tank recovering a leather finger..heard a splash and couldn't find the Tomini)
