I am thinking about getting a Antennata Lionfish, the one they have at the LFS is about 3 to 4 inches long and cute as cute can be.They are feeding him live goldfish and I wont him on prepared foods I do not wont to fool with live feeder fish plus it is not healthy for him anyhow,so question is how hard do you think it will be to change him over to prepared and ideas you can give me on how to change him would sooooo be appreciated.
I haven't bought the fish yet,I am weighing my options right now.

I wouldn't shop at a store that fed Lionfish goldfish.

Ya, probably a good sign of a LFS using outdated info. I have seen it many times myself though.. lions/puffers being fed only goldfish at the store, and even the LFS telling you that is their diet and that is what your supposed to feed them. Obviously that can not be true as goldfish/lions don't live in the same type of water so how can a lionfish ever eat a goldfish in nature?

I admit in my early days of SW/Predator tanks I only feed my puffers, lion, and eel goldfish and they always seemed healthy to me. They would each eat 4-5 goldfish a day for over 5 years and I ended up bringing them back to the LFS when I had enough of predator tanks. They seem to be able to survive on goldfish for long periods of time, but like someone said on here before, it is like making a BigMac your only source of food.. ya, you may be able to live off of it, but it isn't healthy or good for you at all.

yea, that'd be a bad investment.

theres a good chance the lil guys already doomed.

take your $$$ elsewhere

We have 2 LFS in our area, actually not in our area they are in another state that borders us but anyhow, 2 is all we have that deal in salt. The store that has the lion has been weaning him,she has had him 2 weeks. When i asked about his eating she said he was eating goldfish but she has been working with him and he acts interested but then wont eat the food, she agreed that feeders were not healthy but time was why most fish stores feed them feeders, they just don't have the time to wean them.

Goldfish have lovely amounts of an enzyme known as thiaminase, which as the name suggests, catabolizes thiamin. This will lead to fatty degeneration of the liver. Not a good idea, especially for marine fish.

I totally agree with you, thats why I wont to wean him if I buy him.
The girl at the store said the turn over rate on fish was so high that they don;'t have time to fool with weaning them off live but she had had this lion a few eeks and that since he hadn't sold so fast she was able to work with him some.
I noticed when she went near the tank he knew she meant food and was trying to get her attention so I thought since he shows he is hungry that he may be fairly easy to wean.
He is soooo cute..
