Hey all,

Another question!! My son has a tank with a black ghost knife and he doesn't seem to be bothering anything else in there and was wanting if he could get a uaru cichild without causing discord with black ghost knife.

Any suggestions would be Great!!!

Thanks!!

Krista

How big is the aquarium? Black Ghost Knifes if im not mistaken get HUGE. Please let us know how big the aquarium is. Thank you

My son's tank is a 30 gallon but this black ghost knife isn't big at all and if I remember correctly the local fish store man didn't say he was suppose to get "HUGE"

Thanks for replying!!

Krista

so with this ghost knife, he seems very happy so I guess until he gets bigger we will keep him in this tank and then when he gets too big either we will get a bigger tank or take him back to our lfs owner.

Thanks for all your responses!!!

Most LFS wont tell your that these fish get big its all bout the money. You should return the fish and maybe get a pair of convicts or blue ram or get a firemouth. Many options and there are many people here who would be more then willin to help you out find a suitable fish for yours sons 30gal

It's harder to rehome fish once they get bigger. Safer to return him now. They may not take him later because they wont be able to sell him.

GER1023 is right, more than enough people here are willing to help! :D I've learned not to trust the LFS 100%. I myself have bought fish that were small and cute one hit 6 inches and I did some research and learned that he would grow to 12! I only had a 55 gallon tank, so I rehomed him when he was about 5 inches- and it took nearly 3 months to find someone who would take him. (Because I would only rehome him to someone with cichlid knowledge and a tank to hold him at full size.)

Bring him back now so you dont have to deal with the struggle later or spend money on a larger tank. There are fish that will be just as rewarding to keep, and you can feel good about giving the right fish a forever-home, rather than a temporary one.

Ask around and do some research on what you may like! :)

I agree. To be honest, people are not going to want a large fish like that. They would rather buy it small and raise it on it's own. Keeping it now is only going to increase the chance that you won't be able to find it a new home. Also, you increase the chance that he can be stunted. There isn't any solid research out there on fish stunting so no one can for sure say when a fish will reach that point. By the time you notice that the fish has stopped growing and is not full grown, it can be too late. The fish's health may already have deteriorated and may not come back. It would be best to bring back the fish as soon as you can so it can be placed in a proper home.

since the tank is only 30 g I would not recommend a Uaru in this tank. Both species get too large for a 30.
