I was wondering if the asolene spixi and pomacea diffusa can be kept together in the same tank or do they need separate tanks so they don't interbreed.

Also, I've heard different things from different people about the nature of the spixi's concerning plant eating. Do they eat your plants?

They don't interbreed and are fine together. Spixis are not generally plant eaters, especially adults--although some very small spixis might nip a few holes in soft, leafy plants like a lotus.

I don't believe that Asolene spixi and diffusa can interbreed. They can, however, cross breed with Marisas. (I think I spelled that right.) I keep spixis and diffusa together all the time. I have had problems with spixis eating plants, but I have no guarantees that mine are not cross bred with marisas, which are known plant eaters. I have mine in a tank with artificials, because they stripped my java fern while in a mating phase (which seems to be all the time!) Probably why they are a controlled species.

Thanks for the info!!!! I would like to try some of these snails as people who keep them really seem to like them. I'll definitely be careful with the softer type planted tanks and may even put plastic plants into a tank so I can see how they will do.
