question about convict pairing

congrats!

well, now that the pair has made a nest, and the female has laid the eggs, the male wont let her be near the eggs at all... normal for a first time breeding pair?

on all the pairs ive had of regular convicts the female would never really let the male get by the eggs only to fertelize them. you sure you have them sexed rite?

the female was guarding the eggs for a while but the male kicked her out after locking jaws for about half an hour. the male is just bigger.

sexing:
the male is the bigger one with pointier fins, no orange on his body, and is slightly lighter colored.

the female is smaller, more rounded fins, and has orange on her belly.

if this isnt correct, i dont know what is

i tried removing the male to see if the female would go back to guarding her nest. she ended up eating all of the eggs... will the two eventually pair up and be good parents or is there a chance that nothing will ever happen?

just leave them be. they will get it right eventually, they just need time to figure it out.

The best way to breed convicts is to add enough water to cover them..lol..
No seriously, feed them well with live or frozen food and make sure the water chemistry is ok, u will have babies in no time, best of luck..
Convicts were the first cichlids i ever bred.

thanks for the input. they seem to be getting along ok together now that the eggs are gone. the male took over the nest as soon as the female laid the eggs and then exiled her.

don't .... with them. Haven't you read that they are good parents and to leave them alone?

if they were good parents, why would they create a disfunctional tank? isnt the mother supposed to take care of the babies and the father go patrol the tank? i know NOW that to **** with them is not a good idea, thanks for the very late input Oii
