question about correct top for Petco/Aqueon 40 breeder

Good news! I just found and bought one of these at one of my local aquarium stores that had 1 (very dusty) left in stock. $50! So arguably, this $1 sale is BS. The tank is normally sold for $130 with the top and light. So with the sale it is $40. I paid another $50 for the top, that leaves $40 for the light. Which is about what they sell these lights for. I should have just gone ahead and got the 75 gallon tank with top and lights for $175 on sale. But oh well.

usually those aquarium kits with their own tops and lights aren't the greatest. At least you'll be able to customize your lighting, and the 40 breeder is a good footprint to work with.

lol - this is for salt water, so that first link was correct. It is hard to pass up a $45 T5 HO light! I got it and now the tank is complete accept for a stand which I may build myself today. I don't really like the open top look as I lose too much water to evaporation, always worry about jumpers, and with salt I'd get salt all over the place. And what the heck, I spent $45 on Rib-eyes yesterday and they only lasted about an hour.

Glad to hear you got the lamp. Let us know when you get it. I'm thinking you are going to be pleased. So you are using it with the glass top you bought? I'm sure you can easily.

I got the T5 light and it is really nice - well worth the money. And I really like the external ballast! Only problem is, the top is 36" wide and so is the tank. It is exactly as long as the tank. So it sits right on top of the glass just fine but there is no room for the stand to go anywhere. I suppose I could make something but I don't think it is going to hurt anything just letting it sit on top of the glass. Will it? I think I could probably bend the stand "ears" 90 degrees down and then it would sit on the frame just fine.
