Question About Danios

danios dont go well with bettas unless there are plenty of hiding places... Bettas will typically leave other fish alone... however, danios will bother the betta... I have bettas with guppies, balas, danios (with TONS of places to go)... they are wild fish and will drive normal fish nuts...

Many people think bettas will attack anything with long fins... not so (obviously in some cases this does happen but danios and guppies are not typically the same size and the betta generally knows better). With long fins i can see the greater risk.

I would do 3 female guppies... at most

i gotta go with Icka here, the betta won't be the aggressor but the danios will be nipping the fins of the betta big time.

I have bettas with Fancy guppies and no problems, but lots of hidhing places in both tanks for the bettas

Danios will never stop moving they can and will drive the betta into a pizzed off mood for certain.

now all that said, each betta is different some can be overly aggressive, i had that hated the poor pond snail. like WTH dude chill out man.

icka, i said that he already ate a few guppies, lol.

against some advice i added 4 cheap danios. to be honest, the fighting fish hasnt shown any agression what so ever and its been a few hours. Things are looking good. As far as being overstocked- yes im a little overstocked, but everything seems happy. If things go awry (nitrates etc.) or if there isnt enough room then ill move em :p

As it is now, the betta has his nice corner with the heater and the danios swim about, back and forth. Catfish just go through the sand.

Usually if my betta is going to try and kill something he'll at least chase them around the first few hours before biting (neons.. guppies..). I don't know about the danios nipping, they seem to be busy chasing each other around. Ill keep a close eye.

Against some advice? I'd say most everyone advised against it. Why ask advice if you're not going to follow it?

I could see if it was 50/50 but it was overwelmingly against.

A few hours doesn't mean ****. I'll put money down that by next weekend there are dead fish, probably sooner.

Don't be afraid to post that you were wrong after it happens. Also to gloat if it works out.

a full grown guppy should not be able to fit inside a betta mouth unless the betta is Super Betta... they were probably adolescent guppies, they have the color and the fins but are not fully grown and make a nice meal many times.

were they young guppies? bettas have really small throats and can't eat big things. he might have been able to kill and adult but no way could he eat them unless they were really small.

Well the guppies kinda killed each other off too, which wasnt wise. Guys he didn't swallow them whole, haha. He chomped pieces outta them. The lyretail guppies I bought were murderous towards the fancytails. I just returned everyone after a few deaths.

And I will gloat if it works ^.^

When I asked for advice I was more concerned about the betta attacking them, then them nipping at the betta. If they do they're screwed and i'll admit I was wrong. As of now the betta hasnt even looked at them, they seem to prefer the mid tank plants, going in and outta those.

On the bright side they're only two for a dollar. :)

I'll update..

I've had danios and bettas before, many times, with no problems at all.
