Hi..
Can you put anything in the bottom of a goldfish tank, like a sucker fish or something to eat up the bottom, or what about a shrimp?

Thanks,
Sugarcookie

Goldfish are usually fine w/o something that goes through the gravel, because after goldfish search and finish their main meal they start sifting through the stones for extra left over food. Shrimp are not good idea because the goldfish can eat them. And sometimes the goldfish will pick at plecos.

Pleco and comets or sub goldfish do just fine together. Fancy's and pleco's cannot be together without problems. The problem that most people run into is that pleco's (and many other species) will attack another fish that the see as injured. Fantail types move in a manner that the pleco's hardwired brain interprets as injured (I do too). So they attack the injured animal. I've had a pleco, comets, and subs together happily for many years. I just have to remove any fish that is injured/diseased immediately or the pleco will start to munch. Both species can be quite communal and I often see them playing together.

Iv got a 10" common pleco with 5" fancys, as long as the tanks big enough and the pleco is fed it should be fine. If your gonna get a pleco my advice is not get one that grow to 2 feet in length. Give him somewhere to hide feed him and friends for life

IMO of course

Ive got a pleco with my goldfish but he just makes more of a mess than he cleans, i didnt get him for cleaning though. You don't have to worry about food sitting at the bottom of a goldfish tank, it wont happen, they will find every piece!

If you are talking about a tank and not a pond that will freeze over, Weather Loaches are a great addition if you have room. Remember though, they prefer numbers and they school.
Ditto but I'd ask what size the tank is first.

I keep my tank on the warm end of the goldfish spectrum - which is the cool side for the pleco. But we have pitbull plecos with them.

But Kswords is correct, they do turn the bottom well enough on their own. Anything that is left on the bottom after they are done is not something you want to eat...:eek3:
