Question about Penguin 350 Filter

I think those rocks are clogged up and not letting the water flow the way it should be. My biowheel spins pretty fast. You might want to get the rocks out and use something else as for filtering in there or pick up some of the cartridges so your water will flow right and you get the filtration your fish need.

I have an emperor with the spray bars..my spray bars quit working completely..I wonder why?....not that its really a big deal but...i even dismantled and cleaned the filter in the wee hours of this morning but its still not working...hmm.....

i have the same filter and my wheels have slowed and one has stopped, but it the wheels they are just too full of gunk i have washed them out and spin for a few day but still slow again, they just need replaced,.. replace one at a time to keep the bio active or replace both and float the old ones in the tank just under the outlet of the filter does the same thing just not pretty,..

also i have the emperor 400 and hate it the spray bars are always cloging up and i have to clean them out, a pita.. i like the 350 better this the only issue i have had for 2-3 years with it and it was used when i got it,..

Bio wheels should never need to be replaced unless they become damaged. If the outflow is slow, it will cause your bio wheels to slow or stop all together. Clean the area where the bio wheel pegs sit, clean the area where the bio wheel turns. Keep your filter media rinsed out so it does not become clogged and reduce the flow so much the bio wheels stop turning. As long as the bio wheel turns enough to stay moist, its doing its drop, it does not have to turn fast, it just has to stay wet.

As far as the rocks, remove them and replace with filter cartridges, or filter material. Don't remove it all at one time or your tank will have a mini cycle. I suggest removeing one side at the time.

well my flo or output is fine the wheels just are unbalanced, and won't turn right and everythings is cleaned,.. including the wheels with swooshing in water and even sprayed with sink sprayer and still just lumps around, instead of spinning.....

Thats completely normal. As long as they are turning, doesnt matter how fast, they are working.

never throw away the bio wheels they slow way down over time and as long as they spin and stay wet no matter how slow they spin they are working properly.

mine wont stay spinning they are stoped again,..wobble on and off again for a day or so just till i forget to watch and then i look and they have stoped and are dry again,..

good thing i use many different types of bio stuff,..

One more quick question in relation to this thread. It turns out my filter is actually a Peguin 330 but luckly they both use the same filter media. Soo the rocks that I thought were where the filter media was supposed to go were actually another layer of filtration. The media pads fit behind these trays containing what looks to be rocks. I changed one filter pad and now my biowheel is spinning mad and there is no more water trickling down the middle where my intake tube comes up. But my other biowheel still isn't moving and there is barely water flow on the side with the old filter pad. I rinsed out the filter pad really good but I still get no water flow. I have another filter rated for like a 20 gal running on this same tank. Should I change out the clogged media filter or would I risk running a mini-cycle? Gaah let me know guys. I'm nubs

Thanks.

On your 330, you should have a basket in each side, the basket should be located at the back of the filter, then your filter pad should be located in front of this, then your biowheel is in front of that. I couldn't understand from your post which way you have your media in there, but it sounded as tho you have your filter pad then your baskets, then your biowheels.. In any event, make sure the stuff is in the filter corectly, then do what is needed to get teh water flowing correctly. :)
