They do indeed get big and always look big.

My molly gets that big a couple days prior too, but not so big where she just wobbles around on the substrate! It will be interesting to hear what happens with this platy.

she's standing on her head now. Its not looking good. I thought she was dead and when I went to go get her she moved a little. I can't get her to eat peas. The white area has opened up more. Im really worried now. She's been squared off like that for about a week but the white area has been like that for about 3 days. She was swimming around fine earlier today, so I didn't think she was sick.

She just died!!! U were right summer. I feel horrible. I thought she was pregnant. I'm going to go to a large water change.

I am sorry for your loss. I am sure it's strictly a matter of poor genetics than water quality. I've had problems with mollies in the past (even though yours was platy), it just happens. I don't know if there was anything you could have done to prevent this, but if you hang in there, you'll have better luck in the future.

i had a black molly that ballooned up all of a sudden one day, i thought preggo at first, but it was over night so i said it couldn't be. I am sorry for your loss, sometimes its very tough to diagnose things. U want to be as humane as possible about things but sometimes things just don't go right.

I still think she was pregnant. She was squared off and I saw little dots in her tummy which I thought were fish eyes. She was swimming around find yesterday all day until about 2 hours before she died. I thought that since she was sitting on the bottom that she was in labor and that it was only a matter of hours. I still can't believe she died. That was the first fish I have lost, besides new ones but I'm not counting ones that I didn't even put in my tank or have in there for longer then a few hours. Nor am I counting my snail.

If she is pregnant, you can take the advice of many others here and raise the temperature overnight, meanwhile providing an extended period of darkness. If you want to take it further, refrain from feeding her for a day or two. This is suppose to induce her labor.

If she is sick, I don't think there is anything you can do (other than green peas ?). I've heard of a scenario where the guppy female wouldn't release the fry & got really big. It got to the point where she expired & the breeder conducted a cesarean section, to retrieve the fry. I certainly hope this is NOT the case and your girl will come around very soon. I'm surprised mollies get THAT big during pregnancy. Whew!
**** it. I was going to open up her stomach very carefully when she died but I figured that all the fry were probably dead as well and it would just upset me. I wish I did do it.
