for the space you could go with a one sided turf scrubber, the cheato wont really grow well, and little bits will fall out into your display, the idea is that you grow algae on a little mesh then scrape it off every once in a while.

Actually chaeto grows best in a low flow situation, and not hard to screen off to keep out of display, and what does get in if any herbivores will eat.
