Might sounds stupid but I have the stick-on thermometer on my aquarium and I see three colors and don't know how to read it.

If you are using one for your aquarium could you tell me what the colors mean?

Thanks.

and this is why most people will recommend a digital thermometer or submersible thermometer...its really difficult to tell what the temp is from teh stick-on type..i have one on my invert tank (it was there when I bought it) and I average the numbers that are colored.

On mine, the closer to green is the alleged temp.

I do not rely on the few I have. I float glass ones or have digital with probes.

I keep a stick on and a digital on all my tanks. That way they check each other, depending on the temp the stick on will have 3 lit up but as long as Its in the same range as what the digital is saying I know they're correct.

Digital and the glass floating types here..........

Just as a reference, I checked all the tanks upstairs....

the rooms are reading 72 degrees by 3 different thermometers...

four of the stick on displays are at 76, four at 74 degrees...

all of the digitals with probes in the tanks are reading 78.6 to 79.4 degrees...

Green is the correct temp, as mentioned before, if more than one is showing up. That said, with a good heater whatever you set should show up on the stick on thermometer with just one temp shaded.

I got a new (better) heater, and its set to 80 and my stick on thermometer says 80 - 24/7, even when the lights go on/off whereas before with my old heater it'd go up/down 2 degrees from the lights.

I will probably get a digital thermometer anyways though saying as they're like $6.

Thank you for all the responses.

I'm definitely getting a new thermometer because I can be anal and worry about everything.
