I’ve had my emperor 280 for over 2 years with out any issues. I feel it’s a good filter for my needs. It keeps my water nice and clean and it’s pretty easy to maintain. The last couple months though its starting to make a weird noise like the sound you would get when sucking up the last bit of a milkshake through a straw, just a little bit of a higher pitch sound. I’ve tried to see what’s happening but every time I get up to look it doesn’t make a sound. Then just when I sit back down again there it is. I would say it happens for about 1 second about every 10 or 15 minuets. I maintain it on a regular time schedule. I take it apart and clean all the parts about every 4 or 5 weeks. Anybody else experience this? Is my filter on its way out?
Thanks for any info
James

sounds like it'd getting a bit of air trapped in it. nothing to worry about. my emperors do it too occasionally and for about a week i couldn't decide it if was the filters making the noise or a mouse.

i have 3 emporer 280's and a emporer 400. Mine make that noise sometimes too.

Check the little black rubbery thing (sorry don't know what it's called) on the end of the impeller too. It may have worn thin and needs replacement. I've had to replace one of mine.

pikertd has a point, the impeller bearing having some wear could make the pump run a little uneven and cause some kind of minor flow disturbances. Another place to look that probably doesn't get as much attention as the filter itself is the squarish inlet tube. If it is partly obstructed it could cause your pump to cavitate from not having a good enough suction path. Don't forget the potential that the little door in the inlet tube could allow bubbles into the pump even if there is no air down by the main inlet.
