Question for Everyone With a Canister Filter

from top down you want coarse floss, next finer floss or polishing stuff, then your carbon if used and ceramic or bio stuff

for 3 baskets you can have first try have coarse flos and finer underneath of the coarse in same tray,..

Depends on what filter you have. My canisters are setup completly opposite of yours. Water flows from bottom to the top in my canisters.

Hi. This is what i have :
Down : Course (1x) and medium (1x) foam. For larger things.
Middle : Fine (2x) foam. For small things.
Top : JBL MicroMec. For biological filtration.
Above all : JBL Symec Micro. For particles.

Regards.

Rena XP3 filter (I use for my one turtle tank)

Bottom Basket- bio-rings, then course pads on top (2)
Middle Basket- 2 fine pads, then bio rings
Top Basket- 4 pads of filter floss

I have no issues yet, gets all the good junk. I will be changing it soon, I like to change things up to see what works best.

you should always put your mechanical filtration (sponges or coarse pads) before your biological filtration (biomax) in any filter so that the biological filtration does not get clogged up and become ineffective.

I have three Eheim 2236's.

Water in --> Coarse pad --> Seachem Matrix + Eheim Substrate Pro --> Fine pad --> Polishing pad (100 microns) --> Polishing pad (50 microns) --> Purigen --> Water out

first basket: medium/course sump filter sponge cut to fit
1/4"-1/2" gap; just enough for flow through
second basket: poly-fil... quilt batting... crib quilt batting... micron pad
last basket: ceramic rings... micron pad

So, if you've got a good sized canister like a rena XP3 or a eheim 2075 for instance, about how much of each of those things will I need tog et started, I can figure out the pads, but I don't know how much matrix, substrate pro and purigen to buy for it.
Thanks

I have a SunSun 302 it filters from the bottom up.
In the bottom basket I have ceramic prefilter rings toped with one of their filter pads,
in the second basket I have those plastic srubs from the Buck store 8 of them,
in the top basket I Poly Pillow Floss Sandwiched between their filter filter pads.

(SunSun filter baskets comes with a course filter pad that barely covers the basket. It fits snugly enough though.)

All in all it was a great deal.

Hope this helps your filtering question.

Best wishes,
Wes
