Question for the DIYers

Hi all, I am building a moonlight I found LEDs that are 470-475nm and 3000mcd, 5mm. Everything that I have found says that I need 470nmb and 5000mcd. Does the mcd rating realy matter or is the wavelength of the light what realy matter(470-475nm)? Also would 465-470nm work or do you need the solid 470nm for the moonlight effect?

Are you using them for salt water coral life or to hi-light your tank at night... The intensity (mcd) is fine, you will just have a lower light output and may need more to achieve the amount of light you want. As for wavelength if you are not using it to grow your coral life in the water then you are fine. I have build many light systems and sell them online (and I am not pitching a sale here), how many lights are you thinking of using? What is the angle of light? How are you going to mount them? What wattage power supply are you using? And have you figured out your resistance needed for the led's?

P.S. you have to remember that everything you read about moonlight is directed towards Salt Water and the coral life growth.
