the fish have seen fine for 2 weeks now. never once gone to the surface as if there was way to much ammonia...ya i added the dechlorinater. how long after a WC can i do an ammonia test and have it be accurate?

You can't tell the free ammonia from the taken-out ammonia unless you have the specific test kits. I'm pretty sure that the plant and the amquel are helping. Ammonia doesn't ness. make them gasp at the surface btw. Your ammonia will take a steep plunge at the time of the WC(aka you test then to see if you changed enough water, and if it works out you keep changing that much water) and then rise steadily throughout the rest of the time period.

just tested the ammonia in my water...its a 0ppm :) ill test it when i get home from work around 330.

just tested it again....and its 0ppm of ammonia...NOW WHAT?!?!!? whats that mean? where am i at? im so happy

Test for nitrites now. You may be far enough along that you will start to see these. If you have any detectable you will need to do a water change.

You have fish in there? geesch....do water changes till ammonia and nitrites read zero.
