Goldfish live for 20 years and up, and LFS tend to not be dependable when it comes to these things.

i meant goldfish just thrown in a bowl or tank....i mean people dont cycle their goldfish bowls...

o a foot long. Basically, that attitude means that a creature was stunted, forced to live in horrible conditions, and lived for at most 20% of their usual lifespan.

People who keep goldfish in uncycled bowls do not usually (or ever) have their fish live 20 to 30 years and grow to about a foot, which is the full life span and size of most healthy goldfish. I think that was the point; some fish can survive and suffer in crappy conditions for awhile, but that doesn't mean they are living the long, healthy life that they could in proper conditions.
i just checked the all the stuff in the new tank and the old tank. the levels are the same. in fact i swear that every time i test my tank the colors are always the same. im using API 5 in 1. so right now my amonia is at 0 in the new tank....so can i put fish in it?
Are you doing a fishless cycle (adding pure ammonia)? Or were you planning to cycle with fish? I don't see how the snails will really help, since I don't think they alone would produce enough ammonia to properly cycle the tank.
No, your ammonia is 0 because there are no fish in the tank, so there is nothing to produce any ammonia! Any tank that has not had fish in it will always have 0 ammonia, the ammonia comes from the fish waste - no fish waste, no ammonia. The ammonia will spike within several days after you add fish, and they then produce waste (ammonia).
When you say 5 in 1, is that the liquid kit or the test strips? Test strips are notoriously unreliable, but if it's API liquid tests then they are accurate.
Have you read the sticky on cycling? It is very informative and helpful IMO...
i have the test strips...ugh. what a waste of money then. ya i was doing a fishless cycle. i have old substrate in a bio bag...some decorations from my old tank...i just threw in all my puffers pond snails. i thought it would of helped. the thing is tho....i didnt even hardly cycle my other tank....
i set up my 15 gallon...bought 3 crayfish....had them in there about a week..then i added fish. so its been like 2 weeks. there are 2 gouramis. 4 otco cats. 3 cories...6 ghost shrimp. 3 dwarf puffers...so now im thinking is that tank even cycled yet..i dont know what to do then....i wanna move some of the fish to my new tank. i just feel as tho crays are tough and can handle it. my wife is pissed that i have a tank running and i havent split up the fish yet...she does the whole....justin they are just fish. shes like i or nobody i knew every cycled a tank and their fish were fine...
can i throw some ghost shrimp in the new tank to move it along?
