Question on Stealth Heater

I bought a Marineland Visi-Therm Stealth 250 watt heater which I plugged in last night for the first time. My question is that all my heaters in the past have had a red light come on to signify the heater is heating and also working. I see nothing on this heater to tell me it is doing anything and the only way I know is to check the thermometer. Is this the case with this heater? Also is this a good reliable heater?

The best way to check if it's working is to put it in a bucket with a thermometer. There is no indicator light. It is a very good heater IMO.

I'll second that - it's a very, very (lol) good heater. No light (I guess they are pretty sure it works - lol). It has been one of the most reliable pieces of equipment I have in my entire setup. I never unplug / turn off during water changes, etc. I just keep it plugged in and running and have "never" had my temp (knock on wood) move off of 79 degrees! Great product!

I have two of the heaters and they work great, i have had the same concern as you what I did was put it in my tank and let it run for a little while then i just put my hand on the heater and felt the warmth coming off of it. But I would say stay with these heaters.

The stealths have no light as stated above, and they auto shut-off if the water level gets too low, so pretty nice setup. just monitor the temp if you have a coldswing in your area and if the temp stays where it should then dont worry about it.

Stealths are a bit pricier, but like most things in this hobby(lifestyle!), you get what you pay for.

After having cracked quite a few heaters over the years, some by forgetting to unplug while changing water and some by bumping them with rocks, I wont use anything else now but the Stealth. I looked into a titanium heater with a separate thermostat but I have never had a problem with it maintaining the temp and considering the cost diff, the Stealth is the way to go.

Thanks for the replies. I feel much better now as is sounds like I got a good heater. I will just monitor the temperature.

The stealth aspect to the heater is the lack of a light. Some cichlids will be annoyed by the light on a heater and attack it. My daughter has had that happen several times with one of her cichlids. The stealth is not glass so it won't break easily and without the light it doesn't get attacked.
