Is the one inch of fish per gallon rule based upon US gallons or UK gallons??

I have a Juwel rio 240 litre tank converted into UK gallons thats 53G but converted into US gallons that 63G...

Just want to make sure I dont under or over stock so can someone let me know..

cheers

As far as I know its US gallons but its not a great rule to stock by. There are too many variables to write such a simple rule. It doesn't take into account the specific swimming needs, aggression or messyness (not a word I know) of the fish. What were you thinking of adding to your tank? I have never had a Jewel but I believe they are very aggressive fish and hard to keep in a community.

It doesn't matter, it's a horrible guide to fish stocking. It doesn't take into account full body size (only length), bioload, or fish personality.

btw liz, Juwel is a tank brand, not a jewel cichlid ;)

Ok thats cool well people have seen my stock idea before and nobody complained about over crowding so I htink im still good..

24 rummy nose tetras
6 pearl danios
4 pearl gourami
6 corys
6 otos
(possibly 2 blue rams)

I think it looks fine, but rams might be a stretch.

you can't use a simple linear to volume ratio... it just doesn't work... its just silly...

this last entry is more a cubic inch measure, which is a lot more uselful, but still, there is no simple rule that will work for stocking as there are too many factors to consider...

inches, gallons, inches/gallon... meh...
