Question re: Driftwood

link to driftwood

I found this link , I have 3 big peices of african root, simmering in a 120qt crawfish boiling pot. I simmered it an hour at a time for about 5 times (all day) and the water is finally clearing up. The 1st pot was like coffee. repeat the prossess tommorow until its stays clear. good luck.

bought it for discus tank setup

I had the root set up in a 40 gallon tall tank with discus before I decided to boil it. It was great for the soft water the discus need, but now im setting up a hard water, high PH, salt tank for Malawi cichlds. eletric blue and electric yellow.

Will the tanins eventually go away over time or will a tank with "tea-stained" water be "tea-stained" forever? And if it does go away, how long would that take?

Carbon will remove the tannins from the water. Usually over time, the amount of tannins released gradually slows, depending on the type of wood. I have malaysian driftwood in my tank, after a month or so, tannins are barely noticeable. However I do pwg twice a week.

I think I need some real plants too, soon.

Real plants are the way to go, would look awesome. Nice tank!

Beautiful wood, Boofish2. I also like the natural lokking substrate you have. Live plants would look awesome in that tank.
