OK...started my planted tank finally...things are going well. One of the plants I bought was acorus. Someone informed me that acorus is not a "true" aquatic plant and would have a limited life span. I've done some research and found a lot of agreement with that statement. I've also noticed that it's a favorite treat of my guppies and lemon tetras. Anyway, I really like the way it looks. Anyone have any suggestions for something that will do better but still has the same "stiff grassy" look?

Stiff grassy? I can only think of "soft grassy". You can try Eleocharis and see if that will work.
I had Acornus for 3 years, it did fine although slow growth. Not a good aquatic plant due to growth rate, but it can live for extended periods submerged.
Blyxa japonica is a nice plant but rather picky plant also, but more suitable for tanks.
Dwarf Sag's, samll Chain swords might work for the same effect.
