I was at the local lfs in Charleston and noticed a small sprig of something nestled behind a squamosa clam in the main display, turned out to be a chunk of bird's nest coral. For five bucks, I bought my first sps. I do pretty good in my 13 nano at water quality and keeping pH and calcium in the good range. Lighting is 80w pc (half 50/50 half 6500K) with 8~ pounds of lr.

Anyone give me any info (or links to reliable info) on bird's nest?

Hey Mako, I had a birdsnest once, but it was killed by a friend's daughter who decided to play with the algae magnet. Scraped most of the flesh off one side and busted it in half. It never recovered, and it was a brand new frag! (I now keep the algae magnet hidden away when I'm not using it) They like a good stiff current and lots of light, and they can grow quickly. Be sure to keep an eye on your calcium level as sps require it for growth. I would imagine it would be tough to maintain levels in such a small tank, but I can't say that for certain cause I've never tried, my smallest is a 29. Good luck with your coral!

Thanks zog-

Oddly, calcium hasn't proven to be too difficult for me, really odd considering this is my first reef tank and 2nd saltwater in general. I use a combination of calcium chloride and kalk to keep up with it. I don't, however, have a heavy load of calcium using critters.

My biggest tank is ninety gallons. It is a FOWLR setup. I also have a sixty gallon freshwater tank with one baby oscar.
