Questions about Firemouths!!

I thought this might help give you insight into my problem:

-it has not eaten since I bought it
-it does not have trouble swimming it just doesn't want to
-seems pale to me (could it be because its a juvenile?)
-slightly ragged fins (came from LFS that way and I didn't notice it until I got home and got a better look at it)
 
Sorry to piggyback on this thread, but I figured the experienced Firemouth people are already here....

I am getting ready to re-setup my 90g tank (moved recently) and am thinking about basing it around Firemouths...how many could I keep in this tank (48" x 18" x 24"')? I am thinking 2 or 3 pairs. What other cichlids would be recommended for housing with FM?

Might wanna try raising the temperature a bit, keep the lights off for a while to let the little guy relax, maybe something like melafix for the tattered fins?

how long has he not eaten?
 
Nick I would not keep more than 1 pair of firemouths together but you can keep basicly any other american cichlids w/ them. I suggest jack dempseys/cons/gts pretty much anything will work
 
3 days now....I don't know how well he ate in the store. I should have asked them to feed them in front of me so I could pick a healthy one but I was in a hurry and didn't think about it.
 
That was my next idea. An upside down catfish maybe? or a school of red eye tetra.
 
thats what I would like to add but the place that I got mine at is about 45 minutes away and in a bad part of town. I will go to petco tomorrow and ask if they can order me one.
