Questions on ada soil

On their site, they say which ones lower ph etc. I believe at least the aqua soil and amazon do. I haven't looked into the african. There is an amazon II soil that was cheaper and supposed to be pretty comparable for effecting ph

Yeah ADA soil is the best.

(I do love ADA but I only use thier soils, moss cotton, riccia line, and fuji stones - I can't afford the other stuff, but Kotobuki and Nisso makes higher quality stuff and half the price...this my 水槽道 (SuisouDou) Way of the Aquarium)

Never noticed the Ammonia spike though. I use Power Sand special and sometimes Top it off with the powder. You only need power sand if you are going to heavily plant your tank and it goes in before you put in your main soil.

All the ADA soils lower PH. The types are just for color variation, however it says that Africana has less nutrients than Amazonia and plants grow slower. I've used africana, I liked it a lot. Plants did grow slower and it breaks down a lot faster than Amazonia. Even when planting. It is kind of clay like. I've never used Malaya though...

(A runner up to Amazonia is GEX's "Mizukusa ichiban sand" I like this stuff too, its just a little a cheaper than ADA and it looks the same. There is also a custom shrimp version as well. http://www.gex-fp.co.jp/fish/catalog/sand/

For shrimp...

Again, thanks a lot for the info guys :-)

That site in Japanese looks great, Skillful Abbot! I tried looking at the English version one and boy, that was awful :-( It's just like a scanned on catalog or something with "links" at the top that you can't even click. I don't know if it's just the site or my macbook not being compatible. Anyway, thank you very much.

I think I might just stick to ada and use amazon soil, I like the black color. I was calculating the price and it was as if the numbers wouldn't stop going up. It hurts, it hurts so much. 120 dollars plus, for gravel....
