quick help!

i was looking into some unique looking fishies instead of the gourami, like a bumblebee goby, or some other unique fishies. i want something cute and small and colorfull that isnt your average platy, mollie, swrodtail deal. please help, i want to have a real  tank:D

correct me if im wrong but dont mollies like about 1tbs salt per 5 gal? do they mix with the other fish this person is choosing?

The Hagen Aquaclear 20 (Mini) is by far the best filter for a 10G setup, as it has a 3-stage filtration process, with an option to add your own custom media in the second stage via the use of empty re-sealable nylon bags that you can buy specifically for this model.
If I were you, ditch Petco/Petsmart, and order online, for better prices and selection.
Your fish selection IS compatible, but ditch the Danio's unless you go for a 20G+ tank, as they really need a fairly big swimming space to be happy. They are a very active and fast swimming species.

Almost ALL store-bought Mollies are compatible, as they were bred in salt-free conditions.
Wild Mollies are used to brackish conditions, but I guaruntee you won't end up buying the wild variety. Either way, Mollies can quickly adapt to salt-free water without negative consequences.

Sounds like the gourami and mollies would fill it well. You could get a few cory cats, a small species, maybe. They really like larger schools, but I have 8 in a 120 and they never really school together. I would say you have the tank full except for 2-3 bottom feeders that would not grow too big (which rules out the common pleco or loaches, even though every LFS sells them like crazy).
I have 5 Cory's of the same species in a 10G tank and thay always school together- my guess is that yours may look the same to an untrained eye, but they are of differing species, hence why they don't hang together.

Mollies can get a little big for a ten gallon, instead you may try platys. They come in a bunch of colors. They also look and act very similar to mollies. You can even get some neat cross-breeds with mollies and swordtails.

Here are a few varieties.

In my 10g I have 6 neon tetras, 2 platies, and 1 African dwarf frog. I am considering maybe two more neons, but that would be pushing the limit. They definitely need to be kept in schools, to reduce stress. I have read that cory cats are best kept in groups of 3 or more, too. Check out the species profiles link on the top of the page. If you want to learn about cycling your tank, just do a search on this forum, and a TON of results will come up. You will need to purchase testing supplies, at the very least for ammonia and nitrite, then at some point nitrate. Check out the articles link, too, as well as the archived help stickies, these areas have helped me out alot, and I still have a bunch of questions. Don't get discouraged, it is frustrating because of the information overload, but keep at it, and learn all you can.
