I need to remove some old hard water stains from my new (used tank). I have tried the algae scrubbing pads, and a metal scraper. What is next. I need to get this tank going this weekend. Thanks Zach

Try a razor blade if the tank is glass, usually works great for me.

Blue

Agreed. Quick and easy. Just remember that glass isn't impervious to scratching so be careful and watch your fingers!:lipssealedsmilie: I just cleaned a used 10 gallon yesterday by using this method. It helps if you have the blade in some sort of handle. I used the attachment that we have for our flat top stove.:grinno:

VINEGAR VINEGAR!!!!!!

WHITE VINEGAR!!!!

Water stains gone like magic...............
That would be my suggestion, too. You can use all acids, but in the case of vinegar the risk of harming yourself is quite low :).

Ok will try some lemon juice then some baking soda. I will let you know tomarrow. Thanks Zach

also if you add some salt to them mixture it will give it some abrasive qualities without doing harm to the glass- the salt ultimately dissolves in the water. One last thing...restaurants use a compound to remove scaling from inside coffee urns and glass coffee pots. It is very, very effective though if you find it you might want to call the mfg first and ask them what is inside it. sorry, can't remember the name of it but if you look up restaurant supply stores in the yellow pages it shouldn't be that difficult to find.

:eek3: Be careful with all that scraping, I speak from experience.......keep the vigorous scraping away from the silicone:eek3:
