I have a newbie question first time keeping ramshorn snails and I'm gonna breed them for my puffer to munch on lol. Was wondering what temperature should they be in? I currently don't have a heater in the 5 gallon and won't be able to grab one till monday. The temp in the house is around 70-80 degrees. Think that should be cool?

should be just fine. If you're breeding them higher temps will speed growth. I keep my ramshorn breeding "tank" at 80F

i can always send you more :) Next time I go to philly I will send you a message and see if you want some pond snails for your puffer, I have those in abundance in one tank.

Along these lines, does anyone know what the average breeding-egg-babies timeframe is for rams? I have two blues that snuck in with some plants (I think from mgamer, but I'm not sure) and I isolated them from the browns and oranges about three weeks ago. They're the only two rams in with some guppy fry now. I see an entire new generation of pond snails already, but no obvious rams babies. I've seen them mating at least once, so I know it's not a personality conflict. Any idea when I can expect to see blue babies? They're so pretty, powder blue with sort of underlying spots... If I'm gonna have rams popping up everywhere, I'd rather they were pretty!

P.S. mgamer, if they were accidental hitchikers from your plants, THANKS!

Good question. I have no idea. I was actually wondering the same thing myself. I got a bunch of common ramshorns from Msjinzd a while back. I'm thinking August but not sure. It was still warm out though, so no later than mid September. Anyway, I still haven't seen any Ramshorn babies though I've got tons, I mean tons, of pond snails and cherry shrimp. Maybe my pond snails and cherries are out-competing the ramshorns for food or something.

The tank is at 79. I feed Hikari algae wafers and snail Jello made with extra calcium (maybe double the amount in the recipe), extra Omega One veggie flakes, fd baby shrimp, and garlic. I also throw in various veggies. They seem to especially love tomatos and sweet potatos.
