Is that really a fbt? Looks like a baby american toad or something lol, cant really tell. But yes with that much water, I would get some rosy red minnows. Also, get some fake plants and let them float in the water for them to rest on. ALso if they ended up breeding, the female puts her eggs in the plants.
just a plant like that ^ cheap, but thats what they constantly rest on.
Can I ask why you have so much water? Was it just because you planned on getting fish? I seen somebody that had guppies before, but I like the rosy reds, their active, cheap and are good at getting away from the toads if the toads see them.
Oh yeah and if I was you, I would just get rid of the bark stuff, it just pollutes the water, and I really don't think they care, If you have fish and bark polluting the water you will have to change it more, its just a lot cleaner and fresher with no soil/bark in the tank with so much water, but it doesn't matter
I agree with firebelly_girl about the soil and bark but here are some ideas for some new tank mates for your little frog.
white cloud minnows these fish will live in water around 61 degrees and up.
zebra danio
Blind cave fish
paradise fish
platys
or you might want to try a firebelly newt the spend a lot of time in the water and some fresh water crabs. And you could also get some african clawed frogs or what about a asian floating frog those are cool well hope this helps
thanks guys!
i have three fire bellied toads..2 green and one brown. they all have very bright bellies =)
and yea, i was hoping to get fish! i had the tank set up completely different, but when i actually got the toads i was sick of it and wanted to change it!
ill get more fake plants soon. and i was always interested in blind cave tetras, but dont they get kinda big for such a small amount of water, and i thought they schooled too? but i never thought of platies! ill look into that too!
oh and one more question! how often should they be fed?
ive only had them for 2 days, but ive fed them crickets dusted in a vitamin supplement and floating sticks once a day.
what else can i feed them to keep the diet as varied as possible? and how often? thank you!
Crickets a few times a week is good. Floating sticks? They dont eat them lol...wait do yours? They only eat live stuff...
earth worms chopped up are good....small mealworms every now and then are ok
well for the blind cave tetra the stay around 3 inches and will do fine in your tank. What i do for my fire belly toads i to have two of them a brown and green is that i feed them in a separate cage I bought a 5 gallon glass one for them and mine don’t really mine. Because u don’t want the crickets to float dead in the water or if you do get the blind cave fish they would eat the dead floating crickets because they have a really good sense of smell.
i dont know if i could handle chopping up earthworms lol.
i can feed them live, whole things. just not anything id have to chop up.
and yea, i only put a few floating sticks in there, and i cant see them now so im guessing they ate them lol.
i was thinking about mealworms too, but i wasnt sure, thanks!
mealworms are pretty fattening and should be fed only as a snack food, never as the primary food.
As for fish, I think 1 or 2 platies would be good. As for the tetras, minnows, blind cave fish, and danios, i think they would be preyed upon by the fire belly toads.
my girlfriends neon tetras were eaten by her firebelly toads.....or at least we think thats what happened............
Since were looking at frog tank pics I thought I would share mine with you guys. I don’t really have 2 fire belly toads those are my sisters but I buy them food and feed them so there kind of mine lol. But I have 1 African bouncing toad in a 10 gallon so here he is. file://picture003.jpg file://picture002.jpg
