quick question about skimmers

a $29 skimmer? from PETCO? i wouldn't recommend it. the only thing i get from petco/petsmart is instant ocean and sometimes lights/heaters/etc. generally they are more aimed towards freshwater products and only have limited stuff.

if you are buying online, then i would recommend the following sites:

drsfostersmith.com
bigalsonline.com
marinedepot.com

as for skimmers, i wouldn't skimp on one(or for that matter any piece of saltwater equipment). it's an expensive hobby - that's just part of it. IMHO, i would go for one of the better models - aquac remora, cpr bak pak. if you're on a limited budget, then a red sea prizm would be a descent choice. HTH

Well its been up for almost 12 hours and there is a good bit of foam colleting in the collector cup. HEre are a few pics. It appears to be functioning well.

I have the same one and LOVE IT! I too was skeptical because of the price ($60 CDN) at Big Al's... I haven't noticed any difference between it and the HOB or sump skimmers that I have. It keeps up and does its job! IMO it's a good skimmer for a small tank (<45) on a budget.

I would stay away from the prizm...trust me, I had one. For a limited budget look online for a Coralife Super Skimmer. About $80 + shipping online and a great skimmer. I have one and couldn't be happier with it.
