Am in the process of dry fitting all the plumbing for my new tank setup...I was wondering...On the pipe that goes from the tank into the inlet section of the sump, how far below the water level should the exit hole on the pipe go under water.....Obviously, if i cut it above water height, the water will be coming out of the pipe and effectivly splashing into the sump...so, if the exit hole is under the water, this will not happen?

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance

Niko

I usually place mina about 3-4 inches below. If your sump is glass you could also add an underflow bubble catcher to help with micro bubbles. basicly it is a glass corner you use to box in you overflow pipe and extends from the top of the sump to about 2 inches from the bottom.

that is about how deep into the water i was thinking...Yes, i am using a glass sump, dont really see the need of having a underflow bubble catcher as i already have a 3 baffle bubble trap between my fuge and return...

Thanks for your comments JoJo, it is much appreciated...

the bubble catcher may come in handy depenting on the size of your sump (exp. length of intake section). the less latteral flow the better of to have one.

the sump i have just setup is 36" long...I just dont see a need for a corner bubble catcher in a sump if you using a 3 baffle bubble trap, just seems like a waist of valuable space in the sump...As with all sumps, you need to take advantage of the maximum ammount of space you can..Which is what i did and in testing, its great...The one that Leo is just setting up is exactly the same as mine...

Cheers for the comments buddy
