I've had my tank set up for 12 months now. Water quality running fine, however I've just noticed what looks like a couple of blood red spheres growing on the live rock, they appear individually and in small groups of approx 7/8. Now, they are very small and my camera wont focus on them so cant provide a picky, but I would say they were approx 2-3mm in diameter, initially thought they were some sort of bubble algae but can only find description of green bubble algae.

Does anyone have any idea what they could be, whether they are safe in a reef tank, and if not, the best way to remove them?

sounds like red bubble algae..high nitrates or phosphates..just wait till they get a little bigger and pull them off..don't burst them tho or it will spread :)

they are really slimy too when you try to break them.
