I have a 10 gallon tank and I would like to get a bala shark. Would a 10 gallon tank be big enough and does any one have any suggestions for how many other fish to get or which other fish would work good.

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the board. No, a 10 gallon will not be big enough for a bala shark. If properly taken care of they can grow to 14+ inches, and really need an aquarium of around 200 or more gallons for a group. I think the best thing you can do with a 10 gallon is put a male betta in it. They are more than "just a fish", he will become your buddy. :)

uhh

you can have more then a beta in a 10 gallon

even though they say these are incompatible they work

i have 2 crayfish
2 glassfish
and 1 african butterfly fish

ummm, i don't really know a whole lot about them, but i am pretty sure an african butterfly fish needs more then a 10 gallon since it is only using the surface of the water.

you could plnat it and get a little school of tetras- the only one I can think of that would be close in body type and color to a bala though would be a rummy nose and they can be fragile- Balas, as mentioned before are a large nervous schooling fish, I wouldn't keep them even in a 75 personally. How flexible are you in what you want to keep? what do you like about the balas?
I agree, I wouldn't keep a butterfly in a ten either

I know, I was only stating what I like best in a 10 gallon. But IMO, a 10 gallon isnt really suitable for alot of kinds of fish. They are good for small fish like bettas and killies (and probably quite a few others), and other creatures such as african dwarf frogs, small shrimp and snails, but not much else (again, this is IMO).

I liked the color and how it really look like a shark as opposed to other sharks. I am flexible however on what fish I get. I am willing to take any suggestions on which fish to get for a good environment for the fish.

10 gallon stocking ideas (may be pushing the limit a bit, but IMO as long as you keep up w/ water changes, and maybe have a few live plants in there, you should be just fine)

1 betta
6-8 glo-lite tetras
3 cories

OR

1 betta
4-5 african dwarf frogs

OR

5 guppies (1 male 4 female)
3 cories

I know you said you like the looks (color/shape) of bala sharks, but I honestly can't think of any fish that really look like them... Good luck!
