Quick!! What plecos stay small?

be warned that male Ancistrus are somewhat aggressive in competing for food though- I've got a male and two females, the females are fine but the male is extremely unpleasant with other fish competing for food.
:iagree: However mine was female and managed to slash through most of my discus and angels when they foraged near her boundaries.:perv: :lipssealedsmilie:

I am going to go out and say I am guessing they are columbian zebras... which stay small, I've had 3 which have remained under 5 inches in a 75 gallon tank and they are extremely shy. I wouldn't purchase them again due to their shyness.

I would agree with this as well. Mine hogged EVERYTHING from my corys and otos.

Ancistrus that are THAT hungry need to be spot fed enough to meet their needs. They are voracious cleaners, but that in turn makes them short on food at dinner time once the tank is clean. Ancistrus claro are very nice, small fish. I've seen as much or more aggression from Panaques, Baryancistrus, Hemiancistrus, and other fancy plecos. Don't discount Ancistrus. They're great fish that actually work for a living ;).

I have to say I have had a young pair of ancistrus Pucallpa Gold in my discus tank for about 9 months so they are around a year old and there are 6 julie cories in there as well. There must be plenty for them to eat in that tank because they rarely come out at feeding time whether it's flakes or bloodworms...doesn't matter. No aggression whatsoever. I rarely put anything else in the tank just for them. They are healthy and certainly not thin! The pleco breeding tank I have to feed all the time. There's 6 albino cories in there and when I put algae wafers in I have to put several scattered in different spots around the tank so the cories can have some (they are piggies!) and the female BN can eat in peace away from the male. He will chase her away from food that he wants. I always drop a wafer right by his cave.

well my albino ancistrus is not aggressive whatsoever, but then i put sinking algae tablets all round the tank for all the bottom feeders.
so i'm guessing if you supply enough food for them there is no reason for them to be aggressive.
anyway they are really cute, mine sucks away on everything all day long and rarely hides.

So did you get one??

Well the store did not have their normal stock due the holiday schuedule. The rubber lipped that they had were sick. I had my hopes up, thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I'd ask for a rain check, so you can take advantage of the "sale".
