The pump I have on my 135 is a RIO 2500 and it is silent. As far as the noise from water falling, I would put a solid pvc pic to about 2 inches below the intake is and use a T-adapter at the top so one end is where the water goes in and the other is out of the water. I have this setup on one of the tanks in our house and that is quiet, just our pump pushing 3600 gallons a hour is loud. That is on our 450 gallon tank.

Yeah, but I figured to do so might negate the quiteing effects of having it sealed up. I havent ever heard of anyone putting sound deadening material in thier stand, so not sure if there was a reason there that no one has tried. As far as being fully enclosed, not sure, its hard to tell from pics. Though I plan on my setup being quiet, so I am not to worried about it, just wanted to offer some ideas for those with wet/dry.
hey Loach... There is stuff called Peal and seal at lowes, its for roofing. It has the exact same ingredients as Dynamat... Dynamat is a pro grade vehicle sound deadener. but it cost about 15dollars for a 3'x3'sheet. you can get a 12"x16foot roll of Peal and seal for 12 dollars, self adhesive, and alluminum sided on the other. I also use it as reflector in my DIY canopy. Hope that info works and saves you a ton of $
The dynamat or peal and seal will dampen cabinet vibrations and add mass to the cabinet which would lower it's resonant frequency, but will not absorb sound waves. I would think that the tank's weight would be plenty of mass to keep the cabinet from "talking". Cotton batt insulation along the walls will absorb sound waves. Other options would be Owens corning 703 fiberglass boards that can be wrapped in fabric and placed on the walls of the stand.

Yes, foam and insulation would be the best, I was just suggesting something cheap and easy to work with. I am sure dynamat or peal and seal would help a little, its not like we are trying to sound dead'n a studio or dishwasher (or atleast I hope your filter isnt that loud!

peel and seal would work great for killing the sound of the water and the pump noise it works have it in my stand wich is hdf and should deaden the sound but also added peel and seal cant hear it anymore
