Quietest filter for a 10 gallon

one idea im pondering is to drill a hole into the tube of the undergravel filter, then run an air hose through it to an air pump. the air pump would pump air into the stream of water from the powerhead into the undergravel filter. the gravel bed would then be saturated with oxygen and water.

The Penguin 660r powerhead ALREADY has a hole for air intake...on top of the output, usually plugged with a cap. 660r's come with a short tube and valve for air intake. If you you no longer have the the air attachment and need one, PM me, I have extras. You shouldn't need to add an air pump, it's a passive air intake (engineering magic/science), but you could if you wanted to.

IMHO, the 660r running an RUGF should be enough filtration for a 10G by itself...that's a lot of water turnover. why not try it by itself and see?

My newest AC filter had a "vibrating" almost dragging sound right out of the box, but stopped about 30 minutes after running it. Not sure what stopped the lid from vibrating but it did stop.

right, but i did drill a hole and tried to engage the air pump. it was a brilliant idea but caused a great deal of pressure to form on the tank, causin water to seap out along the black trim on the bottom. so i used a spare tube and put that into place of the drilled one. its been so quiet now without that whisper running. so i think ill probably go with it for now.

so, what should i do now for agitation, if anything? i ask because i thought it was necessary to facilitate gas exchange. or does the exchange come even when the water is exposed to the air, regardless of whether the water moves or not?
