I have a 29 gallon tank in my bedroom that is just to loud. It has a penguin 200 on it, and it seems I have to top it off everyday just to keep it quiet. I also want to do plants in the near future, so I think the biowheel will release too much CO2. I would also like to clean up the inside of the tank, so I want an inline heater.

For these reasons I've decided to go with a canister filter.

My first choice is the filstar xp1. How is this, especially in the noise produced?

If you don't recommend the xp1, what else do you recommend?

Thanks.

Also, what heater do you guys reccomend between hydor or rena smart heaters?

Filstar or Eheim would be my choice. :thm:

I like the idea of the smartfilter from rena and the heater goes in it too any one try this one yet

The new tetratec filters have a place where you can put the heater in the filter, those look pretty neat, not sure how they work though.

I have a Rena Filstar XP3 and I love it. I've only had it for about 3 months but i like it a lot and have found it really easy to use. It's really really quiet compared to my 3 other bio-wheel filters.

i have a whisper 40 on my tank. it rocks and it is so quiet.

EDIT: go with the hydor heaters. i have had three of them over the last 3 years- 1 200w, 150w, and 1 100w. all have performed perfectly and without flaw. they are very good. i recommend them.
