Hey GUys, I hope that someone can shed some ideas for quieting down the pre-filter box for a wet/dry system. I have had varied success with using a piece of filter material from a 'hang on the back of tank' type filter. I shoved the material down into the tube a little ways to break the cyclonic effect that produces the draining sound. Is there something that is 100% effective in this application? I hate either not getting the proper amount of flow or ear piercing sound associated with the system. I wish that I could make the entire system audibly transparent, any help/ recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Trimega

Try placing a sponge around the exit to the overflow box. This slows the water down, and prevents the vortex from forming in the box. If the pipe from the overflow box to the sump is not a straight shot, slowing the water down can result in bubbles forming in that tube, which makes a bit of noise, but not bad.

Unfortunately, completely silencing moving water is impossible without slowing it down too much. Muffling it is your next best bet--build a box that surrounds the overflow and is padded on the inside.
