QUITE a surprise today! (pic)

Instead of turning off the filter just get another intake and hook it up leave the egged one there and move the new one away so it is less likely to suck them up. Or if you want to be even more carefull buy a surface skimmer and run it only no bottom suction at all.

Another option is to use a sponge oe a piece of pantyhose to cover the inlet. I didn't have this problem, but my fish didn't lay eggs ON the inlet tube, so good call LMK!!

Yeah, that might work. I'm kinda afraid of disturbing the "nest" though. Anything I hsould be worried about? Maybe I'll just turn the filter off, pull the basket thing off the end of the intake, wrap it in pantyhose, and put it back on.

The fry could still be sucked to and pinned against this.

get yourself an aquaclear sponge and cut a hole in the middle.then it'll suck enough water from the whole sponge and won't be too strong.
gl and congrats

It may not look the prettiest, but here's a quick fix.
Turn off the filter, take out the media and put it in a media bag or pantyhose as suggested and either drop it in the tank or hang it from the side.
In the meantime you can gather your resources together and figure out a way to handle the problem you must now face.

You could get a second filter to run until the eggs hatch and then keep it as a spare, or you could buy a sponge filter and an air pump and let it run. Or, if you have fairly clean eating fish, just drop an airstone into the tank with a pump, but, if you are going to have to buy a pump, Id go ahead and get a sponge filter while you're there. They only cost about $5. $10 total for a pump and sponge filter. Either way you go, just make sure to keep the old filter OFF and keep the old media IN the water.

My last pair of angels laid eggs on the intake of my filter as well. I bought a relace tube and switched them no problems. Once you start to mess with that tube you better take it out b/c they might eat the eggs as a result. Oh and they will attack you when there's eggs.

Well this morning I checked the tank and... no more eggs. :( They're just gone, like they were never there. How sensitive are the eggs to water conditions like pH, hardness, etc? I wanna make sure that next time they spawn, i'm doing things right from the beginning. Also, will they keep laying the eggs in the same place? I'd be happier if I could get them to lay eggs somewhere OTHER than on the filter intake.

A few more questions too... How long do the eggs take to hatch? And about how long do I have until they do it again?

Most likely the parents or other fish ate the eggs. Do you have plants in the tank with wider leaves than the vals showing? I think they wanted something wider and sturdier, thus the tubing. A long time ago when I had mating angels, they would lay their eggs in the same place. Maybe if you got a piece of slate and angle it up close to the filter tube, they’ll choose that next time.
