I was looking around on E-Bay this morning & came across a couple things that seem to be pretty good deals. (1) the R/O unit, price & shipping cost seem reasonable. Was wondering if anyone ever bought one these units on E-Bay & if they are worth it ? R/O unit

The other was the protien skimmer. Would this be a good one ? Protien Skimmer
I was just curious if anyone has gotten these from E-bay ? These prices are like 50% less if not more than my local LFS's

Thanks,
DREW

The RO unit may be a good deal depending on what it ends up going for. $75 is an incredible deal (dont forget to factor in the $35 shipping though)

I dont like Jebo skimmers, so I wouldnt find any price a good deal...

The RO system by the time you pay freight is comparable to what you can find in most retailers. You need to be concerned about finding replacement cartridges on average they will need to be replaced every six months for normal household use” coffee and drinking”, so for water changes you will need to change the cartridges more frequently. This is depending on how hard your water is. Also you will need a container to store and circulate the water till you have enough to do your changes most of these systems will only generate a gallon or so per day.

I bought one of the E bay RO/DI units a couple of months ago for $98.00 including shipping, works real good, well built and came in one piece! From what I've read the cartridges are interchangable with Kent and other manufactures cartridges. So the unavailibility of replacements seems unlikely. So far no complaints. You really can't get a much better deal with a big name brand in my opinion.

the ro units

ro or ro/di? i bought and ro/di from ebay and it sucks bad, bought another from aquatico.com and love it, the ro/di on ebay take the granular di material and lasted about 100 gallons, you get what you pay for, i got the ro/di 300gpd for $359 from that site, works like a charm with no problems

I always suggest buying the complet kit from HD. That looks like a complete kit to me, with the storage tank, etc. At that price it's about half of what the sysetm at HD costs.

One thing though, when they mention 3 gal for the capacity of the tank, I think that's an outside volume measurement of the tank itself. My 3 gallon tank actually holds about 1 1/4 gallon :( It takes a full day of filling one gallon pitchers and pouring them into 5 gal buckets to do my 15 gallon water change. I need to plumb in a filling station.

Thanks for all your opinions.
I agree you get what you pay for, Right now there is no way I could afford a big name brand unit. These prices, even with shipping cost, are very tempting. Maybe I'll try one , if I dont like it, I can always put it in the yearly garage sale.
I'm still interested to hear more of your experiences with these, if there are anymore left.

Oh, aquatico.com is not there anymore.

Thanks A Lot All!!

Don't know about the R/O, but I was able to find a "new" red sea prizm skimmer on ebay for 55 including shipping. Might not be a bad idea to go to http://petsolutions.com and check their clearance corner. Also thatfishplace.com is another good place i've found to get good products at better prices.
