Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum so please excuse my lack of knowledge on how to use it! Does anyone have comments about using R/O filter units? We are considering getting one, but I feel like I don't know enough about them. Our well water is really yucky, we've had bad luck with our 75 gallon tank. Thanks!!!!! :) Sue

No they really aren't that big of a hassel. All you really have to do is change your filter once in a while. The only real issue with them IMO is that they do waste a lot of water . Since you have a well that may or may not be a big deal depending on where you live and if your well ever runs dry or low. It will be well worth it for both you and your fishes health though if you have pollutants or natural contaminates in the water.

Sounds cool, the waste water shouldn't be that big of a deal, we have about a 3/4 acre yard with lots of flower beds that need watering!! But is it true that the water becomes too pure for freshwater fish and products need to be added back in?? Sue

I dont think its a matter of the water being too pure for fish....but if you are trying to grow live plants you will definatley need to add nutrient suppliments back in.

Is anyone familiar with a certain kind that is better, although I realize they can qet spendy!!! This is a cool forum! I was on another one that I think originates in the UK, so I was getting some interesting responses - I think their water is different!! :soda: Sue

**But is it true that the water becomes too pure for freshwater fish and products need to be added back in?? Sue** Maybe if you're keeping fish like chiclids you might consider it but, for normal ones probably not. Also you'll want to change out the water gradually so as not to shock your fish.

Buying an RO water filter was the best move I ever made. My aquarium water went from horrible to text book perfect in 2 days. Plus your family can drink it. I would recommend one to anyone who wants perfect aquarium water. It's too pure to use by itself, my tap water is real bad so I use 70 percent RO and 30 percent tap.
