I bought two yellow antenna rabbit snails and a chocolate rabbit snail from the LFS. Made sure they gave me active ones that were actually crawling on the glass.

When I brought them home and placed them in the tank, the yellow antenna snails withdrew into their shells and haven't come back out while the chocolate is very active.

This happened with a livebearing trapdoor snail a while back, but after a few days it became active again. It's been a week since I added the rabbit snails and still no movement.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

How were they acclimated? What else is in the tank? Is there food available?

When I first added my yellow rabbit snail she didn't move for several hours. Once the light went out she started exploring a bit. She's way more active if some food is around. She loves to eat.

Acclimated just as fish, floated the bag in the tank for temp equalization, added a bit of water at a time, dumped excess water and did it again. Then added the snails.

29 gallon tank has 2 ancistrus, a few guppies, a pair of killifish and 4 cory cats. Oh and a couple of Syn. Petricola. Other snails include the chocolate rabbit, 1 large trapdoor, and somewhere there are 3 assassin snails from when I had a pond snail outbreak.

The guppies at my lfs are in the same tank as their rabbit snails and the guppies are constantly picking at them. Maybe they don't feel safe with all the fish swimming around. Maybe try moving them under some plants. Also I would not put any snail I wanted to keep with assassin snails. They have been known to work in packs to bring down larger snails.

I did not know that about assassins, I have intended to remove them, but can never find them when I am looking for them. I'll have to check as soon as I get home form work tomorrow morning while its still kinda dark in the room.

Thanks

Additionally, what temperature are you keeping them at? I've noticed a lot more movement with the yellow antennas when I keep them around 82 degrees. They're a warm water snail, and they're the least active of the Tylos. Additionally, the advice about the food is good. Mine like pieces of algae wafers(I use the kens fish ones), but also will eat some of the higher protein foods (flake, cichlid pellets, catfish pellets, etc.). I've also seen mine hunt down and eat planaria.

I feed algae wafers as well, the ancistrus like them along with shrimp pellets. I have some cichlid pellets that I will try. I will also boost the temp a few degrees and see if anything happens.

Tank temp is at 74-76 right now.

Thanks for the tips/advice.

that temp is very cool for them, 82 is their target. They also don't like alot of bright light nor do they respond well to fish, especially active ones.

Thanks Rachel. I have raised the temp by 3 degrees, will raise it a bit more tomorrow. The only light it gets is from the window across the room.

On another note, the 3 Darios I have are doing well ( I think ). They are in the 20L with some plants, rocks and driftwood.

Tankmates are a few BCS, Cherry shrimp and 3 (3/4") red claw macro shrimp.
