Raccoon-proofing pond

raccoon assassination squad,

what you will need:

4 shooters - arrange them in ambush, 2 teams, so you get triangulated
fire and a good kill zone. (note: careful not to shoot each other,
nothing screams "Amateur" like shooting a member of your fire
team during a Raccoon ambush. Just imagine you are at the next
NRA meeting and your friend Cletus sees your new bullet hole
scar and you have to explain it to everyone. How embarrassing.

4 rifles - .22 cal pump or lever action minimum, I prefer more of a "shock and
Awe" affect , so go with AK-47 very reliable weapon (note: for some
reason the louder the wepons the less complaints you get from the
neighbors, my neighbors have not made eye contact with me in over
18 months.)

Booze - does not matter what kind just be sure you have plenty on hand
(note: save yourself some time and just go with straight liquor, if you
use beer, you may have too start the ambush at noon)

Smokes - That way you have the whole trinity covered (Alcohol,
Tobacco, Fire Arms)

Just a note on timing and firing sequence: you will want to stagger the start time of your shooting for each fire team about a good 5 count, it takes approximately 3 seconds to reload an AK-47 (with a clip in arms length in your firing position) you certainly do not want a lull in your ambush, I would supply each man with no less than 6 clips, raccoons often carry rabies so you cant be to careful. at 30 rounds per clip thats 720 rounds. unless you have very large raccoons that should do the trick.

A note on the overwhelming use of fire power: Some people blow these kind of things way out of proportion, and want to use claymore mines, incendiary grenades, and such as that. I think is kind of unsportsmanlike, some people even consider these munitions "dangerous", just something to think about.

If you need any help just pm me, I know several people who are good at obtaining equipment (if you know what i mean)

my 2 cents

lol

If you're not going with a .22 cal, then get 4 50 cal BAR's instead of AK-47's. These will be especially good if your shooters don't have fire discipline. You can very quickly run up a big ammo bill with an AK-47 on full auto. Even a near miss with a BAR will put a varmint in the next county.

Actually, the military BAR shot the 30-06 round; perhaps you were thinking of the Browning 50 Cal M2 ("Ma Duece")?

12 gauge pumps loaded with #8 dove loads would be ideal, also!

Mea Culpa! I knew someone out here who bought one, and he was always calling it a BAR. Though having any ammo flying about can be bad for your pond liner.

I tried using a hav-a-heart trap to catch the coons at first. A pack of dogs got to the trap and smashed it all up. I found the coon dead in the trap, and still haven't gotten the trap to work. I think the neighbor, who has sheep, took care of the dog pack when they visited him.

Well, in Arkansas, we shoot racoons. Other than that, there are plenty of dogs that catch and eat coons. Sometimes we shoot them THEN let the dogs eat them.

Note: Coons can and will kill a single dog, especially if the coon tricks the dog into water. Dogs can also catch rabies from fighting coons.

Possums can kill coons though, and dogs can kill possums, it's like rock-paper-scissors.

My auntie has best coon protection. BEARS! not sure which type but they occasionaly come into the perimeter of her farm so she hides in the barn.
