well I live in the city and have a somewhere in the 5000 gallon range yard pond with Koi and fantail goldfish. We had a raccoon issue once, of course got the biggest koi in the pond, and then left the picked clean bones on my lawn. pellet guns just **** )<< I cant say ****?, well **** that. hehe.) off raccoons, theyll be back. Not sure how legal it was, but the neighbors never knew-took a 2 liter pop bottle a stuffed it FULL of newspaper. Cut a .5" hole in the exact center of the bottom, then taped the contraption to my .22LR semi-auto. It muffles it down so it sounds like a car door closing, not the high pitched whirr and plink of a normal .22. Used the nightvision on my sony handycam (there eyes light up something way cool). ANyways, popped one that was on the edge of the pond, and though as previously mentioned tying it up somewhere would have been good, i just left it there, sort of a combat reminder to the others in his squad. That was last september, havent lost any fish to coons, but i did catch the cat with a small (not fry anymore?) baby in his jaw. Not sure how to keep him from that as my coon solution doesnt really work... ;) . Best of luck and keep us posted if you find a more ...humane... way (only good raccoon is a dead one, but i can see how that might not work for some people on this board, to each their own) Happy Huntin'
