Rainbow and yellow lab mistake?

the male was going into breeding age possibly so he'd be trying to court a female which accounts for the harassment, if theres no female he'll go after a male and chase him a little. But more over why do you have a Lake Malawi fish mixed with SE asian river and SA river fish? I really suggest you remove the malawi cichlid, all of them if you want to have an easy school. your idea with the rainbows is good, you just need to increade the population. Cories aren't hard to keep though I suppose you lab was possibly murdering things at night. You can keep a school but research. not all species of cories are compatable with EACHOTHER. Also Google, Reaseach, Crossrefrence.. play it safe so this will not happen again

wait, are we talkin rainbow cichlids or rainbow fish?

I mentioned rainbow cichlids, but the OP is about rainbow fish with a yellow lab.

Sorry gang--didn't realize that there is a rainbow cichlid (I posted in the FW forum rather than cichlid because of the mix). I was wondering what Arrakis' concern was. Still an odd response. The cories were long gone before the labidochromis caeruleus. The one remaining cory swims all over the labs and they completely ignore it (it was born and raised in this tank and seems resilient to everything-even being solo). It was the least of my concerns. Things have completely settled down. Everyone is swimming as calmly as ever. The two newest additions are keeping to themselves, semi-hiding but fully visible. One of my original labs has fry in her mouth which I'm sure added to the excitement! Haven't had a baby in the tank for a couple years because of my recently deceased angel.

I've never kept Bosemani rainbows, but according to SeriouslyFish:

"Very peaceful, but can disturb smaller or slow-moving fish with its rapid movements and relatively large size. Good tankmates include other similarly-sized rainbowfish, characins, danios, barbs, and catfish such as Corydoras. It can also be kept with many species of Rift Lake cichlid, due to its water requirements. "

bosemani's? those are bows.

as for your cichlids, the aggression is an issue of territory. you had three established labs with their own territories, and the addition of the newer one messed that up entirely. he was an intruder in all of the territories of each lab (or the pair in that case), so was chased everywhere.

Thanks Jon. That combined with crazy male rainbow was a bit overwhelming.

well, if it was a rainbowfish, then I have no idea why it would act like that... as for the labs, yea, territorial disputes would have ended badly for all the fish.

What's the foot print of your tank? Your tank may be too small for the fish you are keeping.
