What can anyone tell me about Rainbow cichlids? I have done some research, all I have found is they are peaceful and about 4-5 inches. Could I put one in a 45 gal. tank? Also, what can you tell me about Port Cichlids? Could I possibly put a Rainbow and a Port together? Any advise and help would be appreciated!!!
TIA, Anna

Rainbows

Hi.

Rainbows are great fish.
I have a breeding pair in my 33 gallon. They are very tolerant of the other fish in the tank.

The best way to describe them is peaceful but territorial. They will stake out a spot in the tank and it will be theirs. They will fight to protect and defend their territory but will not start the fight.

They won't (at least mine won't) back down from any fish. Mine have taken on single convicts, severums a 6 " texas, my chocolate cichlid.
Mine moved from a spot once. That was after a very big scrap with my breeding JD's that were quite a bit larger. Even then they only left the spot after taking a big beating and had the males mouth get dislocated by the big male JD and the female got scarred up a bit as well.

They moved to a different part of the tank and lived together very well until I moved the JD's to one of my other tanks.

Fiesty yet peaceful little buggers. They breed very well too. At times I will have them giving me a nest every 3.5 weeks. Excellent parents.

They are not picky eaters, and are pretty laid back most of the time.
