Ok, I got tired of watching my Rainbow Cichlids getting pushed around by the Firemouth-Blue Acara.
Since their finnage was starting to suffer I transfered them temporarily to heal them up and make them big and strong on blood worms.
As an additional benefit they are now starting to spawn. The female's tube is down so I know it is imminent.
My question is this. Now that they are about to lay eggs both the male and female have this bright golden sheen over their entire body with a blue haze on the caudal flanks. However I thought their breeding garb was gold dorsal blaze with a black under belly?
Do they take on the bright gold/black color phase once they have laid eggs?
I know that I will certainly find out soon enough but just curious.
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light.
