Rainbow Fish Pics...

Nice bows and a great tank!

i have 2 boesmani rainbows and they have almost no color... they are about 1-1 1/2 inchs in length (how old do you think they are) and how long will it take for them to color?
At 1-1 1/2 inches, your boesemani are probably 3-6 months old. They will slowly and gradually color-up over the next 2 years, although if you have female boesemanis, they will not look anything like Gregg's male boesemani. Also, Gregg can correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like he got the 10 pack of male rainbows from Tanner on aquabid (rarefishatlax), who has some of the best-looking rainbows available in the US. Only a very small percentage of the male boesemanis sold in local fish stores will have the intense orange of the fish that Tanner sells.

I didn't get the 10 pack, but I have seen it advertised after I put together most of my tank.

As for the Boesemanis color, you do need to be careful where you buy them from. I have seen some that look like a combination of yellow/pale blue. I was very selective and went to many different fish stores when looking for mine.

When putting together a Rainbow tank, I think one of the important things is to know what you are looking for. You might walk right by a juvenile rainbow and have no idea what it will grow into. Most are pretty unspectular when young. so they won't jump out at you. I also got to know some guys at the LFS's and let them know what I was looking for.

The next step is patience! The changes take place slowly are worth the wait.

Here is a list of the type of Rainbows in the pics. They are in the order of the original post.

Tami River, Millenium Rainbow (Glossolepis Pseudoincisus)
Blue Rainbow, Lake Kutubu (Melanotaenia Lacustris)
Boesemani Rainbow (Melanotaenia Boesemani)
Running Creek Banded Rainbow (Melanotaenia trifasciata)
Goyder River Banded Rainbow (Melanotaenia trifasciata)

I have found all species of Rainbows to be very compatible together. I have other species also but haven't been able to get any decent pictures. I'll add to the post if I can get some.

My fish started coloring up at around 4 months, but really started showing nicely at about 7 or 8 months. I should also note that my tank is all males.

Here is a full tank shot, and another member of the commumity: The Roseline Shark, Denison Barb (Puntius denisonii)

That is, in all honesty, one of the nicest tanks I've ever seen

What beautiful fish! Isn't the last one a ram, though?

Yes, it is a community tank, but mostly all rainbows. There is a pair of German Blue Rams and a pair of Roseline Sharks mixed in with the Rainbows.

They all get along very well together.

Your tank is one of the reasons I am currently setting up my new 75 gallon as a rainbow tank. :)

Thanks for the nice compliment. I am very happy with my set up. I had a wide variety of fish over the years and this is my favorite set up so far.

The colors are great, they don't hide, and don't try to eat each other!

Great tank! Thanks for sharing.

My 75 is primarily rainbows. They are friendly, colorful and very active. My wife and I are hooked on them now, if we add I'm sure it will be more rainbows ;)
