Is this normal? I mean he stays upside down in his cave for hours! He seems to enjoy it. I haven't witnessed any other abnormal behavior. Any thoughts?

Does he move around quite a bit? I have had several and none of them stayed upside down. How does he act outside of his cave? How crowded is your tank? Rainbow sharks like to have a nice big area to call theirs.

The fish is very active, he's always chasing around the other fish. I have a twenty gallon long with 3 white clouds and 2 black phantoms so I don't consider the tank to be that crowded. When he's outside the cave he's usually foraging around for food and chasing the other fish. He isn't always upside down but when he does he seems to just float there like he's relaxing. I can't figure it out.

Not unheard of--I've seen my rainbow do the same thing within his cave. For fish like sharks and plecos, upside down behavior is a cause for concern mostly when the fish can not control itself, or can only turn over with great difficulty.
