rainbow shark

I feed him sinking shrimp pellets and he likes to nibble on the hikari algae wafers I put in for the Bristlenoses. Basically if it sinks to the bottom he'll eat it, including blanched vegies. He also loves algae and often has a green 'algae moustache', very cute.

He's probably my only 'pet' fish.
Why is that? You don't consider your rainbowfish pets? Don't you ever breed nice ones that you want to keep for yourself (I'm assuming you breed them)?

Well basically he's the only one I've named, yeah I know a bit wierd but I see the others as a 'community' instead of individuals. I'm very attached to all my fish (especially the ones I breed myself) but for some reason Boris is just....ummm...special I guess.

As for breeding, my breeder tank kinda got filled with rescued fish, aggressive fish etc so breeding has kinda been put on the backburner. I'm trying to rearrange my tanks so I can have the breeder free for summer.

I hear ya! Some fish are just characters, I've got several myself :p:

As for the aggressives taking up your breeder tank, I hear that too! If I kept every overly aggressive fish I came across, my house would be a collection of tanks with a bed squeezed into the corner for me :D

It think if I had all the tanks I wanted the humm would be heard from a mile away LOL :).

Now if only my male rams would get along, and the golden killie wouldn't eat the Blue-Eyes and the SAE wouldn't chase the corys I'd have a free breeder. Hmmm I think I need another tank LOL.

The smaller the tank the more aggresive it will be as its got less space to its self. Thts why mine chases my gourami away constantly when it gets to close and thats 4 inches.

Rainbow Sharks will do fine in a 30 Gal but really should have more space than that. I think a 55 Gal is plenty of space. They get to be betwen 5 and 6 inches in length. You should only keep one in a tank unless your tank is very large and both fish can claim their territory. I know I have a small tank for a Rainbow Shark and I am looking at upgrading to a 55 Gal in the near future. My Shark currently gets along with all his tankmates.

I just bough 5 rainbow fish and they go really well with the shark. A few chases but nothing that damages (when he can catch them cos they are fast) and when they grow they will be able to put up a fight so they wont be picked on.
